Hold Tight is One!

Aw gee. One year already. One year of great records mixed pretty shoddily. It's sure been a lot of fun. Thanks to anybody and everybody who tuned in, and for the kind feedback. Check out the birthday celebrations Sunday 1st March, 8pm CET at loud-fm.

A quick Oscar-style round of thank yous:
Firstly, to you, the valued listener (you made it all worth while, sniff).
The guests for their invaluable contributions (you guys are the best, i mean that. Seriously).
And especially to Niko The Dude, for letting me hijack his radio slot once a month (literally couldn't of done this without you, big guy).

Pass the sparkling wine!

Mwah! mwah!

Sunday

Hold Tight Radio.. This time round I have a great guest mix from our man in NYC, Pete Wu. I’ll copy and paste a bit from his recent email to tell you about the mix:

“…it's heavy on bootlegs and NY labels, Restricted Access, in particular and remixes of R'n'B songs from the past few years.

I know it's a departure from a lot of the stuff I was playing in Bkk simply cuz it's not jackin' or dirty or techy. Maybe having spent the past year in NYC had something to do with it as Restricted Access is based outta there but more likely, this is the kind of stuff I spin when I'm taking a break from the harder, more frenetic stuff. I called it "About Time" because I hadn't done a mix and I had promised a few people I would - they just happened to be the types who said they liked some of the more vocal-oriented mixes I did so I put together some of my favorite newer vocal, NY-flavored songs.”

Amen to that.

Plus there’ll be the usual discoid boogie from me.

Usual time, usual place- Loud FM, 8pm CET. Subscribe to the podcast using the link over there, on the right.

AND...I'll be playing at La Regla this Saturday. It’s at Edelweiss in Xberg, Berlin, from 11, in the bar.

Next Friday I’ll also be spinning at Transit on Schlesische Strasse, from 10pm.

Hold Tight Radio - Dec - Part 1

The Bee Gees. The Alan Parsons Project. Stevie Wonder. Elvis Presley. That's right, it must be the "Hold Tight Best of 08 Round-Up" show. Over the last 12 months I've discovered some truly amazing music- much of it old. It being December though, I decided to put together some of my favourite records from 2008. Turns out it was a pretty good year, as i could have doubled the length of the show and still not fit everything in. Although a number of the tracks here are edits of of old tracks, almost everything on the show was released in one format or another in 2008. Apart from the ones that havent been released at all. Damn it - it's just some music I've been enjoying this year.
It'll be interesting to see where the edit scene goes next year as it's hugely saturated right now, but when there's still incredible records like "Night Flight" and "Make Dance" getting released, and producers like Pilooski doing weird and wonderful things to highly unlikely material (elvis?), there's still life in the old dog yet. Plus it's great to see this stuff only getting released on 12 inch, in some small way keeping vinyl alive and kicking.
Not to forget 08 produced some absolute belting "original" records, a few of which grace this month's offering. Hats off to Mugwump, Max Essa, Emperor Machine and Stevie Kotey's enormous Free Disco remix. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the show, see you in 09. xxx
